Howdy…..Where have you been

Howdy.....Where have you been

Ok let me start by saying sorry for the lack of updates, generally life got in the way a little of big things happening @ GFB Towers.

Saying that we are working towards the Retro Rides Gathering…a full weekend of amazing cars and amazing people. If you’ve never been then I suggest you look it up and try to get there!!!

So whats been going on in the last few months….

Well the Midget was sold, sad to see it go but she was never a keeper anyway. The Capri which will be this years show season car of choice for me (NGFB) has basically had a yog full of cash thrown at it. First off a Suspension rebuild of the front, nothing special just Poly Bushes and new TCA’s etc, I was getting increasingly worried about the state of the suspension and its part of the car “We” have not touched. So to be on the safe Side I replaced it all!!

Also she’s had a new rebuild Diff fitted as the old one was getting a little past it to be honest, it has transformed the cars driveability however now its silent I can hear other grumbles and noises….

The Beetle is pretty much in the same point it was last time we updated the blog…Reason why you ask???? Just life getting in the way and money I suppose. She just need a new rear screen and some Window rubber, so I’m doing my best to Keep Leebo’s interest on this car as she will look amazing once done (and its not much to do). SO COME ON LEEBO GET YOUR WALLET OUT AND ORDER THE BITS!! :-)

The Austin….Same as really, Ive just not had the time to get her to the MOT center however once the beetle is water proof she’s taking pride of place in the garage for finishing off. I want this to be my winter Retro as it would be perfect for them cold days as the Heater is simply amazing!!

MGBGT……This car is always in my mind and the things I want to do, next year she will be out in a slightly different guise thats all Im saying at this point as I want it to be a little suprise.

Midget (Red one)…..Still sitting under the tarp, again this await the water proofing of the Beetle so she can go back in the garage and have the rear end rebuilt.

Passat….Leebos daily, being VAG its running perfect…Still not fitted his new wheels though.

Corsa….. No idea, its Wag’s daily so I guess its working fine like the Passat.
No photos of anything really, but in 7 days its the Gathering so you will see alot of new photos added then!!!

In other news GFBDEVELOPMENTS.CO.UK have their own stand @ the Gathering, so if you see us come over and say hello. You cant miss us as we have all the clothing too ;-)

Much love NGFB

WebCam Notice.

WebCam Notice.

Just for the Record here.. After venturing to GFB today for a short while i notified “NGFB” that the Camera hasnt been working for a short while, he looked into it and remembered that the software needs re-installing on the DNS,,, ?? Bloody confusing to me.. not networked much with webcams myself, on another note the Beetle is in a sorry state to view but coming along in progression states, more filling to be done as the first coat of primer reveals small imperfections, but its still at the stage of being sorted anyway, its not as if its had a colour added and then found out it has to be resprayed again.
Well, thats all i have for now, hopefully we will have a seperate page soon for the webcams.. just waiting on Butler to sort the software. When it does go back on the Camera will more than likely be on to view on a weekend, or just a Sunday. Only time will tell. One thing though, its not as if there is a shortage of cars up there! Plenty still in the queue!

The Beetle Arrives!!

The Beetle Arrives!!

Well today we finally said Goodbye to bad CRAP!!! Pug 306 gone to Sims Metal! I filmed the Big Claw picking it up and then moving it to one side..

Anyway, a few pics were taken before and after its arrival at GFB.. i gave it a wash and due to the mildew and god knows what else on it this was the longest car wash ive ever done.
Pictures in the Gallery from Today!

All go @ GFB Towers

All go @ GFB Towers

Afternoon internet folk!

I would have thought one of the others may have updated about the weekends activities. The Corsa was sprayed in a fine shade of “Tipex” white with minimal of issues, to be honest it was probably too cold overnight for it to cure properly but its done and looks amazing (did I just say that about a Corsa, I must be coming down with something ;) ).

Anyway this leaves a nice open space in the Workshop for the Beetle (So where is it I hear you ask, TBH I dont know). Once this arrives the updates will come in thick and fast however for now have a picture of the Midget.

Because I put it back on the ground and saw it like this the juices have started flowing for mods etc, I’ll keep them to myself for now but think 70s custom ;).

As on Monday (just gone) the little Austin is MOT ready, this has been booked for Sat morning. I fully expect it to fail but we have done 99% of the work required it will just be something hidden it did not think about…

Anyway I must sign off now and dream of screaming Pinto engines (Its Thursday afterall).

I’ve had messages from a few people asking for an update (Is the Corsa not enough for you guys?).

Anyway I will start by apologizing for the lack of updates by NGFB (me by the way).
Now thats over and done with on with the update!!!

The arrival of the Beetle is looming, Id be lieing if I was not slightly excited about hitting a new project (Others aint finished though) but hey I must stay calm its not mine afterall. Due to the motor arriving some changes need to be made at GFB HO, this means doing something I thought I’d never do…..Move the Midget outside!!!

Now this should not cause an issue as it does have a hardtop and I got a full all weather cover for it, but its my pride and joy so I’ll be making sure its not outside for long. In between the Beetle arriving a car needs to be resprayed, you’ve seen the Updates, its the Corsa so removing the Midget from the workshop is a must for this to happen. I’ll make sure I take some photos so you can see what she looks like, but be aware its not a complete car!

In other news the Austin is 98% MOT ready, just needs a bulb for the FOG light and the Brake master cylinder rebuilding, Im looking forward to using this all winter instead of the Capri……………….Have a picture of Leebo and the car :)

AustinAustin 2

So thats where we are up to, Stay tuned for a big update after the weekend.

Winter feeling :(

Winter feeling :(

OK OK I know Mr weather man has told us about the heat wave, but I cant help feeling that the Summer is long gone and we will soon be knee high in snow (YES PLEASE I OWN A CAPRI) and my toes will be cold. Also as we all know as soon as it gets cold something in the depths of our retro motors will go wrong, thus making us crawl under them :(. All part of the love I suppose.

Anyway this week my brain has been dotting around the interweb thinking of MG Midgets…………………………..Yes Yes I already own on and Im not about to go buy another. The reason I’m thinking about them is because I touched the Midget for the first time in 3 years at the weekend and the love/hankering started to flow, and so it should I’ve owned that car for 14 years and its given me so many fond memories.

So what am I thinking about doing?????

ENGINE.. ENGINE.. ENGINE! Baby however nothing silly just a subtle upgrade and something done on the cheap and simple. The original 1500cc plant is worth selling on as its a recon unit with about 2k miles on it, this would fund wait for it…………………………………………………….A PINTO ;).

I fully expect to be flammed for this but hold on, have you guys not seen what the Ford boys are doing with these engines (Drift championship winners too). Its easy power at an affordable cost, I know there are newer motors out there like the Zetec etc etc but this would need the least amount of wiring (a plus point) and only a bit of welding. The issues come with the gearbox, the Type 9 is quite a bit larger than the Marina box that the 1500 was shipped with but I’m sure GFB Dev can come up trumps with the task.

This project is going in the list and probably wont be done for a while (Remember I do have a Austin 1300 to complete and Leebo’s Bug is about to turn up, plus the fact a respray of Tipextastic corsa is needed before the weather takes a dip.

Well thats Nathan Signing out!

Beetle Crisis……………..Thankyou!

Beetle Crisis.................Thankyou!

Hopefully it wont turn out as Average as said one!!

I present to you “The BUG”, as for details I dont actually have any apart from it being a 1300 and it being off the road for 5 years.
Like I said in the previous update and whats been mentioned, this motor is actually Leebo’s but like all projects at GFB dev (And we have alot of them ;) ) its a team effort so all of us will be mucking in where we can.

Anyway on with the pictures, Ill let them do the talking:

The question was asked “is it doable”, in relation to other restorations I’ve done/doing or been involved in this one seems simple so yes it is!

Logistics, the plan is to put the Midget on its wheels and store this outside under cover, of course any bare metal will be painted in Zinc primer and mechanicals will be prepped for a short outdoor storage time span. This means the Beetle will be in the workshop for the winter months and means we can crack on with it without freezing up ;).

So there we go the beetle is now out to the masses!

In other news I would like to thank our viewers, we had the site stats come in last night and I was shocked at the traffic we have generated so please comment on the pages your viewing with anything related you like, also tell your friends about us!

Much Love!!!

Excited much?

Excited much?

Well after a brilliant Saturday morning, Well done little Crapi, and a little sneaky peak at the new project we decided I really needed to pull my finger out and start sorting things out.  So with the large list of things to getting bigger and bigger,   I settled down on the old laptop.  So

Logbook sent off? CHECK!

Reg transfer sent off? CHECK!

Ebay listing for peugeot? …….

Well 2 out of 3 isn’t bad.

Anyway.  I cant really put into words how excited I’m starting to get.  The peugeot really had a hard life before we got it back to GFb and we decided it really was too far gone and well really not cool or retro enough!

Hopefully by the time you read this Nathan will have pulled his fingers out and uploaded a few pics of the task ahead!  I really cant wait to get started and spend a few pennies.  If anyone has any ideas for the new project we’d love to hear them.

Lots of love
