Where have we been….?

Well the short answer is nowhere… Lol

In truth though we have been busy little bees.  The MGB has been the main concern over the last few months, With The MX5 finally being weighed in and all the big jobs tackled the engine is in and running…. :)

This did take a fair bit of thinking about as we have had to fabricate all of the engine mounts from scratch and then make sure the engine and gearbox were sitting correctly.  The Car is looking so good at the minute with nods to the old BL days and the modern Jap influences sneak a look in too.

So What else is new?

The Beetle Finally got some much needed attention.  After being sat out of the garage all winter and ideas being bounced about since owning the car we took the plunge on Sunday and fired up the grinder!

So we’re going down the Hotrod route… A little nerve racking at first but I cant wait to get it finished..  With a few more chops of the grinder Nathan fired up the welder and we put some strength back into it and made up a new shelf to complete the boot area.

It was all going so well, the GT passed its MOT and looks the TITS…..But it just needed more speed!
Getting too use to driving the 2.8 Capri I forgot that the B Series lump is a different breed (not saying that the Capri is fast, but its certainly faster than the GT).

So where are we now?
Well before I start on info about the GT, you need to hear about the Beetle………………..Are you sitting down? Good I’ll start!
Lee Finally pulled his finger out his ass or someone elses ass and started working on the thing, about time I hear! This car is just too good to let waste and the fact its taken up so much time and sat around before that it deserves to be on the road.

So for the past 2 Weekends work on this little beast has been full on, firstly the lowered spindles were fitted (We all expected to see this massive drop, but it looked the same LOL), and last weekend we tasked ourselves with a job thats supposed to be hard……..Sway Aways and Narrowed beams!

The rule for the weekend is like normal “Measure twice, cut once” and we had this down to a fine art, of course not wanting to foul up such an important bit of the car! However (There was bound to be one), the words “I’ll Just tack it then we can offer it up to make sure its correct” was repeated by myself over and over! but in true style I just relied on our superior abilities and welded the fudging thing up, to find the Sway Aways were the wrong way around DOH!!!!

Anyway that was sorted and it now welded up and ready for fitting, here are some pictures of said work:

Next….

So I mentioned the GT?
Well in true style GFBDev bought another car, yep but this one is to be used as a donor for the GT.
Ive always loved the MX5 and having driven them the powerplant is perfect, so is the car for that matter. So after thinking hard what unit to stick in the car “I” decided to go for the 1.8i Mk1 MX5 :)

We picked up the car last week and considering how much I bought it for, shes an amazing motor. My intentions are to run around in the car for the next month (still T&T’d) to assess any issues on the lump, whilst getting the GT’s boat anchor our and prepping the Bay. This also gives us time to study the wiring diagrams on the MX5 and the car itself to figure out the wiring.

Good morning internet Folk

As ever the updates are thin, probably due to the weather (well that’s my excuse)……
Before I start on what Im working on I’ll give you a little update on the project “AirCooled”…………On hold!! :). The car was removed from the workshop a couple of weekends ago to make room for the Austin, I assure you (hopefully) it will be completed soon.

So Battle Scars, well that’s how the GT looks on the front end due to the paint reaction. As much as it got to me when it was first happening, Im actually starting to like it. Somehow it gives the car that “used” meaner look etc.

As I mentioned in another Post, I have big ideas for the GT and the purchasing has already started. However before I can fit these items I do need to sort the Failed Head gasket!!

Currently she’s sitting in the workshop with the upper end of the engine stripped.
Whislt its been like this I’ve Ported and polished the head for the extra OOOOMMMPH.

Here are some photos of the progressions (testing HG etc), nothing amazing but it give a little insight.
Also included is a picture of a GT that a fellow forum member sent, I thinking the same look but Wider wheels and arches ;-)

Winters Setting in, most of the cars shows have been and gone, tax is expiring………………………..Dont be glum look back (Not in anger) but in happiness…

Yes folks its been a good and bad year at GFBdev, we had success on our first stand @ Retro Rides Gathering, and an amazing time to boot!!!
The Beetle got sprayed and is 90% there…….
The Capri decided to Launch its diff, but a rebuilt item was found just in time for the summer shows.

So Winter…The Capri is officially off the road, I dont like using it in wet weather and the fact being a ford RUST is not an optional extra but a added feature :(.
I hear you ask “So whats the plan for the long cold months (Feels like years TBH), well my Idea was to sling the GT in for a MOT so I at least have a Retro to roll in. Rust and Wet dont bother me so much with this as the car is so well waxoiled (note oil leaks too) that it should be fine, also the front end paint work is Shite to say the least.

However “Plans” are always ruined (not by a spotty fat ginger kid this time), but by a blown head gasket well thats what we thought. The cars only been driven in and out the garage over the last 2 years since being taken off the road, and I think the head actually came loose GULP… So Ive ordered the bits to freshen the top end up and will perform a little “OldSchool” Mods on it whilst its off.

Apart from that I have nothing else to report, Im still waiting on Leebo to get the window rubbers for the beetle so she can at least see daylight. Once thats out of the Garage the Austin needs to come back in as the brakes seem to have seized :-(.

Ok let me start by saying sorry for the lack of updates, generally life got in the way a little of big things happening @ GFB Towers.

Saying that we are working towards the Retro Rides Gathering…a full weekend of amazing cars and amazing people. If you’ve never been then I suggest you look it up and try to get there!!!

So whats been going on in the last few months….

Well the Midget was sold, sad to see it go but she was never a keeper anyway. The Capri which will be this years show season car of choice for me (NGFB) has basically had a yog full of cash thrown at it. First off a Suspension rebuild of the front, nothing special just Poly Bushes and new TCA’s etc, I was getting increasingly worried about the state of the suspension and its part of the car “We” have not touched. So to be on the safe Side I replaced it all!!

Also she’s had a new rebuild Diff fitted as the old one was getting a little past it to be honest, it has transformed the cars driveability however now its silent I can hear other grumbles and noises….

The Beetle is pretty much in the same point it was last time we updated the blog…Reason why you ask???? Just life getting in the way and money I suppose. She just need a new rear screen and some Window rubber, so I’m doing my best to Keep Leebo’s interest on this car as she will look amazing once done (and its not much to do). SO COME ON LEEBO GET YOUR WALLET OUT AND ORDER THE BITS!! :-)

The Austin….Same as really, Ive just not had the time to get her to the MOT center however once the beetle is water proof she’s taking pride of place in the garage for finishing off. I want this to be my winter Retro as it would be perfect for them cold days as the Heater is simply amazing!!

MGBGT……This car is always in my mind and the things I want to do, next year she will be out in a slightly different guise thats all Im saying at this point as I want it to be a little suprise.

Midget (Red one)…..Still sitting under the tarp, again this await the water proofing of the Beetle so she can go back in the garage and have the rear end rebuilt.

Passat….Leebos daily, being VAG its running perfect…Still not fitted his new wheels though.

Corsa….. No idea, its Wag’s daily so I guess its working fine like the Passat.
No photos of anything really, but in 7 days its the Gathering so you will see alot of new photos added then!!!

In other news GFBDEVELOPMENTS.CO.UK have their own stand @ the Gathering, so if you see us come over and say hello. You cant miss us as we have all the clothing too ;-)

Good morning Internet Folk

Busy times ahead I hear people say, due to the impending season starting…..Well its been busy times all round at GFB towers, and if Im totally honest Im sick of Spraying cars now. As far as we are concerned the Beetle respray is complete and just needs putting back together (Pull your finger out Leebo), this can also be said about the Midget. Strickly speaking the Midget was completed on the bank holiday weekend but me being a numpty (I know its hard to believe) and colour sanded a little too much, and yes I burnt through to the primer, so last weekend I had to repsray the whole wing :( Ahh well its done now.

Yo internet world and all that jazz (Not the Honda).

Mentioned earlier we have been having issues with the live stream, but this has now been sorted and a Live stream will be happening tonight :).

So whats happened then:

First off here are some Beetle pictures to actually show we are working on the car. Its coming along now, wings are in primer and we are onto the mechanical before finishing off the last of the rubbing down before SPRAYING!!!!

Ive included a Video of the engine firing into life again since we started the resto. Lee has alot of choices to make on how this car is going to turn out mainly on the interior front etc.

Also its MOT time for the little Midget so I have done the usual checks and found a Wheel Bearing knackered or so I thought. Upon removal it turned out to be on the wrong way round GRRR, I decided to fit the new one anyway as I know this has not been tampered by a numpty!

This weekends sees a test movement run of the Beetle, yes we could have done this before the strip down but in all honesty it was not solid enough……………..OK OK it was we just forgot :).

Also earlier I mentioned about the Pissrat (Passat) that is Leebo’s current daily, well have some images of his RIMZZZZ, as I dont know what else to write about it as its not broken.

OTHER NEWS…

GFBDevelopments are to have their own stand at the Retro Rides Gathering! Yes mentioned before but this has now been confirmed as the stand passes and club have been booked.

This does pose an issue “Too many cars, too little drivers”…But the requests have been sent out so we will soon see who wants the chance to drive a Retro to the show and have an amazing weekend with some amazing people.

Just for the Record here.. After venturing to GFB today for a short while i notified “NGFB” that the Camera hasnt been working for a short while, he looked into it and remembered that the software needs re-installing on the DNS,,, ?? Bloody confusing to me.. not networked much with webcams myself, on another note the Beetle is in a sorry state to view but coming along in progression states, more filling to be done as the first coat of primer reveals small imperfections, but its still at the stage of being sorted anyway, its not as if its had a colour added and then found out it has to be resprayed again.
Well, thats all i have for now, hopefully we will have a seperate page soon for the webcams.. just waiting on Butler to sort the software. When it does go back on the Camera will more than likely be on to view on a weekend, or just a Sunday. Only time will tell. One thing though, its not as if there is a shortage of cars up there! Plenty still in the queue!

Well afternoon ye internet folk NGFB here.

First off sorry for the lack of updates in the new year, this which has been covered previously is because our social Calender since January has gone into over drive (For some reason people keep inviting the GFB fold out…..Im sure they will get sick of us soon :) ). Anyway this does not mean nothings been done, it just means its a slower production (Hey it winter even we slow down).

So lets start with a few updates ( Sorry pictures will follow this evening).

First up THE BEETLE

This motor has had the most attention over the the past weeks and so it should I suppose. Basically the welding is finally done, this actually makes me joyous as it means the welding burns can heal up :). In fact the wings have been sprayed last weekend and are ready to be fitted (need a rivnut gun), the rest of the body is still being filled/sanded/filled/sanded…..you get the idea but its getting there.

With the sale of the Retro rides show tickets being announced this has spurred us on as we are hoping this will be its big show of the year. Also the fact Im trying to rope mates into driving my other retro motors down there so GFBDev can have its own stand.

The Midget (The new one)

Waiting in the wings is all I can say, the car is drivable, taxed and insured. She is used on the odd occasion but is waiting for the Beetle to be at respray stage so I can lay the new coats down on her. To be honest this car needs nothing, I bought it knowing this so apart from a respray she is good to go.

Austin

Poor austin, I do look at the car everyday it seems it was in the front of the queue and then others jumped in. Ive set the target of this year and to get my juices flowing I have done some checks on the little beaut. As usual 1 crank of the engine and she spurts into life, its like shes screaming to be tearing up the tarmac again (Did I say tearing, I meant tickling).

Capri

Well because Im women and dont fancy being in an accident this time of year the capri is off the road, yep I know its fun for some sideways action and all that but this motor is so clean I dont want to damage it at all. At the moment its covered up, awaiting April when she comes back out to play :)

MGBGT

Ahh well what can I say, she’s been off the road 2 years this August but Im not planning on having it off the road. Like Ive said before I want to do something new to this car and everytime I think of anything its over shadowed by the word engine. So basically Im just going to bite the bullet and install a new better powerplant not MX5 though or V8 etc etc. Im keeping it under wraps at the moment so stay tuned.

Red Midget

Erm under a cover awaiting some time. Again I want to do something extra special on this as Ive said before so just wait and see.

New Motors:

Leebo being Leebo he needs a new motor every 2 months or so :)
He decided fuel was not expensive enough and bought a tree killing Passat VR6. An amazing motor, fast, comfy and down right shocking on the fuel bills. Apart from some coliovers and new rims this car is done, the Coilovers are already fitted and the rims currently reside in my Garage toilet :) they look amazing though.
